About Amani Africa

Amani Africa is an independent pan-African policy research, training, consulting think-do-tank dedicated to analyzing and reporting on the work, products and working dynamics of multilateral policy platforms relating to Africa with a focus on the African Union (AU) and its Peace and Security Council (PSC). As a think-do-tank with a specialization on the AU, Amani Africa is the leading source of information and analysis on AU’s peace and security work.

Amani Africa supports the pan-African vision of a peaceful, prosperous and integrated Africa through evidence-based research, training, strategic communications, technical support, convening and facilitation. As part of the consolidation and enhancement of its work, Amani Africa is pleased to invite applicants with relevant expertise and experience to apply for position of Assistant Researcher.

Terms of Reference

Assistant Researcher:

Requirements

-Master’s degree in peace and security studies, political science, international relations, law and related fields

-Minimum of three-year experience (of working in International Organizations (Ios) operating in Africa particularly the AU, the UN, RECs, policy research organizations, civil society organizations, academic or media institutions),

-Knowledge of the African union and other IOs operating in Africa

-Record of research and writing skills -Knowledge of more than one AU working languages is desirable

-Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills

Responsibilities

-Under the supervision of Senior Researcher or Associate Researcher undertake research and produce inputs for the regular analysis for Amani Africa’s policy research platforms including ‘Insights on the PSC’

-Provide support for the implementation of the strategic research priorities of Amani Africa

-Engage in the development and regular updating of all relevant database on African IOs, particularly the AU and RECs/RMs

-Participate in all research project areas of Amani Africa, including through conducting background research and follow up on timely implementation of relevant activities

-In consultation with supervisor, contribute to the planning and preparation of dissemination of the work of Amani Africa through direct communication with stakeholders, presentation and briefings

-Plan and follow up meetings with key stakeholders including for conceptualizing Amani policy research works

-Track, document and analyze all the policy activities of the AU and other African IOs including, but not limited to, peace and security issues

– Collect, develop and regularly update database of policy making outcomes of all the relevant multilateral organizations particularly the AU, RECs, the UN and the EU;

-Contribute to and participate in the production of regular analysis on policy outcomes including but not limited to PSC sessions and AU Summit

Contract Period

– The total contract period will be one year with the possibility of extension.
