Lea Mehari

Associate Researcher

Lea Mehari Redae is an Associate Researcher at Amani Africa, joining the team in July 2023. Prior to joining Amani, Lea worked for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) first in Geneva, Switzerland as an Associate within the Editorial Team of the International Review of the Red Cross overseeing the evaluations, review and publications of articles in nine editions of the journal. Thereafter, she worked as a Policy Advisor in the Department of International Law, Policy and Humanitarian Diplomacy of the ICRC conducting research on crucial international legal and policy developments and their humanitarian implications. Subsequently, she served as a Humanitarian Affairs Advisor for the ICRC Delegation to the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia conducting research, and developing and implementing diplomatic and policy strategies on humanitarian issues in Africa.

She also worked as an Assistant Lecturer at Addis Ababa University’s School of Law teaching International Humanitarian Law, where she established the first International Humanitarian Law Clinic in Ethiopia.

Lea holds an advanced LLM in International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights from the University of Geneva and the Geneva Graduate Institute, an LLM in Business Law and LLB from Addis Ababa University’s School of Law.
