Nigeria has been on the three-year term seat of the PSC since its operationalization in 2004, making Nigeria a de facto permanent member of the PSC as countries of the Western Africa region agreed to reserve the one three-year term slot of the region to Nigeria.
Membership years: 2004-07, 07-10, 10-16, 16-22, and 22-25
Although Nigeria has never been on the agenda of the PSC, insecurity imposed by the Boko Haram terrorist group in countries in the Lake Chad Basin (LCB) including Nigeria, the most affected member State in the region, is addressed through the PSC's dedicated agenda item on the LCB, considered since 2014 to present time.
