Monthly Digest on The African Union Peace And Security Council - July 2026

In July, under the chairship of the Republic of Uganda, the African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council (PSC) had a scheduled Provisional Programme of Work (PPoW) consisting of four substantive sessions, alongside an informal consultation on the ‘Proposed AU Model on Trigger Mechanism for Early Warning and Early Action,’ and an engagement with the AU Commission Chairperson. Following the revision of the PPoW, four substantive sessions were held, covering five substantive agenda items as well as another added informal session on ‘Funding Support for Somalia/AUSSOM Logistics Package.’ Of the five substantive agenda items, two focused on country-specific issues, while the rest addressed thematic issues. Except for one session, ‘Countering Terrorism and Violent Extremism in Africa,’ which was held at the ministerial level, all the others were held at the level of permanent representatives.
