Dawit Yirga

Dawit Yirga is a dedicated career diplomat with nineteen years of experience working both in bilateral and multilateral diplomacy. Currently serving as Deputy Managing Editor for Research, Security Council Report (SCR), he has undertaken various roles in the area of international relations and diplomacy. Before assuming his current role, he served as the Director General for International Organisations at the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he has undertaken various roles in the area of international relations and diplomacy. He was posted among others, at the Ethiopian Permanent Mission to the African Union in Addis Ababa and Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York. In these assignments, he served as a member of the Committee of Experts of the Peace and Security Council of the African Union and as a Political Coordinator during Ethiopia’s Membership in the Security Council during 2017-2918. He is particularly skilled in matters relating to policy analysis, peacebuilding, public diplomacy, foreign affairs, international security, and international development. Dawit has also completed his undergraduate studies at Addis Ababa University, obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and International Relations, and finished with distinction. He also completed his Postgraduate Studies at the Institute of Development Policy and Management (IDPM) at the University of Antwerp (Belgium) and received a Master of Arts Degree in Governance and Development.
