During April, the PSC was chaired by Djibouti. In total, five substantive sessions were convened during the month. Out of these, only one was thematic while the rest were country specific sessions dedicated to situations in the central Africa and east and horn of Africa regions. All sessions convened during the month took place at ambassadorial level.

In March, Kenya was the chair of the PSC. A total of five substantive sessions were convened via video teleconferencing (VTC) during the month and one of the sessions had two separate agenda items. Although the month’s programme of work envisaged a session on the situation in South Sudan, the session was not convened during the month.

Ghana assumed chairship of the African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council (PSC) in February. The monthly Programme of Work of the PSC initially envisaged only two substantive sessions and a meeting to consider the report on its activities and peace and security in Africa. However, Council convened an additional session around the end of the month, which was committed to the theme ‘elections in Africa’.

Senegal was the chair of the African Union (AU) Peace and security Council (PSC) in January. A total of four substantive sessions were convened during the month. While two of these sessions were country/region specific, the remaining two were thematic. Although Council’s initial programme of work anticipated a session on South Sudan to take place within the month, the session was postponed to later months. In terms of regional coverage, west and central Africa were the two regions that featured in PSC’s agenda during January.
