In March, under the chairship of the Kingdom of Eswatini, the African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council (PSC) had a scheduled Provisional Programme of Work (PPoW) consisting of five substantive sessions. Following a revision to the PPoW, five sessions were held – although not in accordance with the initial PPoW, as one agenda item was added and another removed. The month also had the induction of the new members of the PSC.

In February, under the chairship of the Arab Republic of Egypt, the African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council (PSC) had a scheduled Provisional Programme of Work (PPoW) consisting of four substantive sessions, covering five agenda items. All four substantive sessions happened as planned, including two informal consultations.

Out of the four substantive sessions, one session, had two agenda items, focused on country-specific situations, while the rest addressed thematic issues. The two agenda items were the only sessions held at the ministerial level during the month, while the rest were conducted at the level of permanent representatives. It is also worth noting that, among all the sessions, only one was held in an open format.

In January, under the chairship of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council (PSC) had a scheduled Provisional Programme of Work (PPoW) consisting of six substantive sessions. After the revision of the programme, five sessions were held. Out of the five, three focused on country-specific situations while the rest addressed thematic issues. Apart from one session held at the ministerial level, the rest were held at the level of ambassadors. There was also one open session during the month.

In December, under the chairship of Côte d’Ivoire, the African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council (PSC) had a scheduled provisional pgramme of work (PPoW) consisting of four substantive sessions covering five agenda items. After the revision of the programme, five sessions were held, covering eight agenda items and an informal consultation with countries in transition, as well as the 12th High-Level Seminar on Peace and Security in Africa.

In November 2025, under the chairship of Cameroon, the African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council (PSC) had a scheduled programme of work consisting of five substantive sessions, made up of three situation-specific sessions and two thematic sessions, as well as an informal consultation with countries in political transition. It also provided for the 17th  Annual Retreat of the PSC on the Review of its Working Methods, the Abuja Lessons-Learned Forum and the 8th  Annual Consultative Meeting with the United Nations (UN) Peacebuilding Commission (PBC). After the revision of the programme, the PSC held six substantive sessions, with only two dedicated to country-specific situations. All six sessions were convened at the ambassadorial level.

In October 2025, under the chairship of Botswana, the African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council (PSC) had a scheduled programme of work consisting of three substantive sessions, made up of two thematic sessions and one session on a conflict situation. Additionally, it provided for the commemoration of the Africa Amnesty Month and the Council’s annual statutory meetings with the European Union Political and Security Committee (EUPSC) and the United Nations (UN) Security Council (UNSC). After the introduction of three sessions on crisis/conflict situations and the revision of the programme of work, the PSC held six substantive sessions. Out of the six, four focused on country-specific situations, while the rest addressed thematic issues. All six sessions were convened at the ambassadorial level.

In September 2025, under the chairship of Angola, the African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council (PSC) had a scheduled programme of work consisting of six substantive sessions covering six agenda items. All six planned sessions were convened, with one meeting held at Heads of State and Government level, one at ministerial-level and four at ambassadorial-level. Of the six agenda items, three focused on country- or region-specific situations, two addressed thematic issues.

In August, under the chairship of Algeria, the African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council (PSC) had a scheduled programme of work consisting of eight substantive sessions covering nine agenda items. After the revision of the programme, seven sessions were held, covering nine agenda items and a field mission to South Sudan. Out of the nine agenda items, two focused on country-specific situations, while the rest addressed thematic issues and the Council’s meetings with other relevant bodies. All the sessions were held at the level of permanent representatives.

In July, under the chairship of the Republic of Uganda, the African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council (PSC) convened seven substantive sessions. Held at ambassadorial, ministerial and Heads of State and Government levels, three of the sessions were on country-specific situations focusing on the situations in Somalia, Libya and Sudan. The council also held its inaugural annual joint consultative meeting with the Pan African Parliament (PAP) on 17 – 18 July.

In June, Tanzania chaired the African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council (PSC). The PSC initially planned to convene six substantive agenda items. However, after the revision of the program of work (PoW), it held five sessions with six agenda items.  Four of the agenda items were on thematic issues, while two focused on country-specific situations. All five sessions were held at the ambassadorial level.
